Yahoo!locaust - Jason Scott
When history takes a look at the lives of Jerry Yang and David Filo, this is what it will probably say: "Two graduate students, intrigued by a growing wealth of material on the Internet, built a huge fucking lobster trap, absorbed as much of human history and creativity as they could, and destroyed all of it." -

Want to go ad-free?
David Singleton posted a photo:
Interesting for 3 reasons:
#1 Advertisements labeled as such (presumably because advertising on Flickr is less prevalent than most sites)
#2 It's a self-advertisement. Neat. (hopefully not a sign of poor ad inventory)
And mostly importantly;
#3 Callout to pro/subscription. "Sure, you don't like the ads, but rather than block them why not support the site?" is much better than ragequit adblocking most sites are subjected to. -

Code: Flickr Developer Blog » extra:extra=extra
Sweet. There are actually still things happening with machine tags. I was beginning to wonder if the whole thing had just stagnated. Herein Flickr show off some of the innovative uses of machine tags by 3rd parties, and introduce a new web-service to fetch newly machine-tagged items, filterable by namespace and predicate. I'd like to see the last X gig photos from last.fm added, then plotted to a map. That would be hot. And might be my project this week. -

Flickr link sharing
David Singleton posted a photo:
Flickr offers rev=canonical links in the source for machine detection, but they're not exposed in the interface for users.
