"Each dot is a bus adhering to one of the 744 routes that make up the transport network. Brighter flows are visible where buses overlap, allowing us to see areas of high flow intensity emerge. Structural aspects of the network come alive through the simulation process, as we incrementally introduce more buses into the model."

Infographics and analysis of the first 6 weeks of London cycle hire. The calendar+sparkline style is very clever, particularly when it introduces rain metrics + notable events as well. It's a nice way of displaying a lot of different time data.

Utterly stunning visualisation of sorting algorithms. Instantly understandable and entirely intuitive, they're a brilliant bit of design, almost art.

Famous for the iconic London tube map, Harry Beck also attempted a map for the Paris Underground, which was rejected. The article covers the history of Beck's mapping work, similar (and potentially pre-dating) designs and the reasons for the French rejection of his work.
