"Last year, I was threatened with a lawsuit over the pixel art album cover for Kind of Bloop. Despite my firm belief that I was legally in the right, I settled out of court to cut my losses. This ordeal was very nerve-wracking for me and my family, and I've had trouble writing about it publicly until now."

The Twitter-limpet image provider has a pretty liberal terms of use, which allows them to sell your images without having to pay royalties to you.

Shepard Fairey vs AP photographer who took the picture used for the "hope" image. AP sues, Fairey counter-sues. What a cluster-fuck, i'm not even sure how is close to right here. Fairey is certainly being somewhat of a dick, while the use of the photograph as a basis for derivative work is hardly grounds for a law suit.
